About the Group

GMS band (GMS stands for Gimnazija Murska Sobota) was formed in the school year 2004/2005. We had many performances already then even though most members of the group were in the first year of this high school. We proved to be good and serious musicians, willing to work hard.

In the beginning of the school year of 2005/2006 our mentor Polona Meke suggested preparing the project »Musical Hair«, because it includes not only great music but it also bears a positive message. The purpose of the project , besides playing music, is also to introduce this kind of music to younger generations.

When preparing this project we encounter many difficulties. We could not get the notes from the musical, so most of them were written by our mentor Polona, especially for the saxophones. The rest of the students had to put in a lot of effort to learn the songs when listening to the recordings.

We wanted to have our first performance already towards the end of the school year 2005/2006, but two members of the group backed out because of the Matura Exam.

So our first performance took place on October 6, 2006 in the hall of our Castle in Murska Sobota. We were successful in presenting 13 songs which were accompanied with words and videoprojection from the movie Hair.

We have had 20 performances in different places in Slovenia. The biggest satisfaction for us, the creators of the Musical Hair, is taking part in the music festival Musikfest on August 6, 2007 in Betlehem, USA.
